Description
Early Medieval 12th Century Gilded Strapend
This is a small, attractive strap-end in very good condition. It is made from a copper alloy composite, decorated, and gilded. The strap-end retains 50% of its gold colouring on both the back and front and it still retains its silver fixing rivet. The obverse is decorated with an engraved scrolling acanthus leaf.
The strap-end is shaped in the style of a tapering tongue and measures 24 mm in length and 8 mm in width. As it was discovered in England, it has been recorded under the PAS scheme.
