Roman 2nd Century Bronze Swimming Duck Brooch
This Roman brooch in the form of a swimming duck, has its wings slightly open as if it is about to fly. There are numerous cells on its back, which still retain 50% of the original red enamelling. The duck has a short neck, small beak and a hollow body. The brooch has lost its pin and hinge at some time in antiquity.
The brooch measures 30 mm in length and 22 mm in width. It is a good example of a scarce type of brooch form and was discovered in Cirencester.
