14th Century Bronze Ecclesiastical Book Strap End    SOLD

Condition – Excellent with impressive dark green patina.

This 14th-century small, bronze strap end is from an ecclesiastical book. It consists of a flat, square plate for receiving a leather strap which is engraved with the letters “I H R” in a Lombardic script. Below the plate is a lozenge-shaped box that is hollow and has a small circular-shaped hole underneath. This lozenge-shaped box is decorated with a rose and the terminal of the strap end depicts a wolf’s head.

The book strap end is of excellent quality with traces of gilding and an impressive even dark green patina. It measures 32 mm in length and 14 mm in width.
